Circus Days

Limited Edition Ceramic by DaNisha

"Does art imitate life or does life imitate art? Nisha not only paints her world of circus dreams, she performs her world of dreams in her own Aerial Dance troupe, “Gravityworks”. In life, Dan provides his support by building the rigs necessary for Nisha's acrobatic activities. In art he provides the joyous, striding trio of elephants to support her painted platter. The elephants lift the whirling platter. Dan lifts his whirling wife as she flies and paints, paints and flies… " - DaNisha

About DaNisha

Artist’s Statement

Over time our work has evolved in fundamental ways. It is very true that one must always return to the basics in order to improve and hone one’s work.

We use two materials; ceramic and bronze. Our work then consists of three components; sculpture, drawing/painting and design.

While Nisha has been naturally improving her drawing/painting skills, and I my sculpture skills, over the years we have found ourselves compelled to re-study the fundamental principles of design. In fact, we realized that these principles were those which we ignored, or deemed too boring to pay attention to in art school. They are precisely the building blocks our teachers tried to impress upon us as impossible to do without if one endeavors to design well.

My sculpture has improved in that I have learned, and am continuously learning, how to edit the forms of life so as to describe figures elegantly and without clutter. Real life contains an infinite amount of details. It is my job to find and arrive at just the right amount of detail (not too much!) in order to create something beautiful. As in all things, there is beauty in simplicity. This is the art of sculpture.

As sculpture is my department within the collaboration of “DaNisha”, drawing/painting is Nisha’s department. She concerns herself with two particular aspects of the art of drawing/painting; color and line. She says; “Believing in the power of color was something I came to slowly. Grasping the depth of emotion color can convey has been my challenge. I cross into the world of emotion and color with excitement, searching for ways to express feelings and love.”

“The endless struggle for expressive line is a challenge that confronts all artists. Studying the masters and endless practice are the solution. Creating a beautiful line is a joy unlike any other.”

Nisha and I each create through a different medium; however design is what unites us. It has been a slow dawn but it is now more than ever that we understand the subtle, yet profoundly important principles of design. Principles such as: shape, proportion, balance, repetition, harmony, unity, the relation between form and functionality, decoration and thematic consistency to name a few.

The art of design embodies as many different principles as sculpture and drawing/painting. In fact, all are integral and necessitate a carefully considered orchestration. Herein lays the true collaboration of “DaNisha.”

"The painting by one of my amazing figure skating co-horts which (that) I purchased through Art Evolution recently arrived."
I am beyond delighted with it.
It has been a long journey to receive it and Christopher Talbot from Art Evolution and I worked together for over a year to make this happen.
I so appreciate his patience and consideration while dealing with all of the political and geographic challenges to the process.
He was extremely responsive and communicative in detail over the past year and made the whole experience well worth the wait.

Kind regards,
Sharon Carz.

"Art Evolution treated me personally with a great deal of professionalism and fairness."

I now have my own Cranston to admire on my wall and I have Chris to thank for that.

"We were connected with Artevolution.com a couple of years ago."

Christopher has a keen eye when it comes to understanding spaces, and the art work that will brighten a room and draw people in.  As a business owner in Calgary, I have many clients come in and out of my door. The artwork we have acquired through Artevolution.com has opened our office and added much needed colour.  Every single client has commented the most recent addition from the Dr. Seuss secret art collection.  It is eye popping, and brings a higher level of professionalism to our office space.

"Ice fisherman arrived"

My new painting arrived today and I just wanted to tell you how pleased I am with it (I love it!!!) and the pleasurable, easy transaction with you and Art Evolution. The painting was extremely well packed and protected for the trip to Markham. I am very impressed! Thank you so much for everything.

"Color me happy"

OH MY.... I just opened the mailing tube to remove the art work and I am totally bereft of words to express the surprise and sheer wonder of the great work done by your Gallery. I just can't keep my eyes off of it. It is absolutely far beyond what I imagined it would look like and it moves me to tears of joy at such eclectic and brilliant work by Toller Cranston and also your gallery with the finishing process. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I hope to be able to collect a few more pieces in future from you....

"10 Stars"

With the greatest pleasure I have received the life size bronze statue of Hiawatha. It arrived in perfect condition, packaging was impeccable, delivery as scheduled. The work of art itself is truly sublime. I am absolutely delighted to own it, and to enjoy it every day. If you handed out customer satisfaction surveys, I would immediately grant you ten stars and the highest possible recommendation. Thank you for your kind attention, and for delivering such lasting beauty to my doorstep.

Sincerely yours,
Kevin Fountain.

"Handled professionally and efficiently"

I have nothing but great things to say about my experience with Christopher and his team at Art Evolution. Beginning with my initial phone call with Christopher, when we spoke for close to an hour as he shared memories of his working relationship with Toller Cranston whose art I had called about. Once I decided to purchase a painting, the transaction was handled professionally and efficiently, and I received my painting (crated so well as to make the painting indestructible) very soon after. I will happily conduct business with Art Evolution again in the future.

Mitch.

"Absolutely Recommend Art Evolution"

I have never actually been to the Art Evolution Gallery, but I have bought several large Toller Cranston paintings using the Artevolution website and then phoning Christopher to get his opinion of my choices. The paintings have always arrived in very substantial plywood and 2 x 4 crates wrapped in masses of bubble wrap in perfect condition. The whole process of learning the back-story of the paintings and the eccentric Mr. Cranston from Christopher has been a lot of fun for me and I would absolutely recommend Art Evolution. An original painting gives a new life to your space. We get to experience the artist’s imagination every day.

"Christopher, thank you for your fast and efficient service"

I have been looking for the sculpture Surrealist Piano by Dali for a period of time. I am impressed that you managed to get the sculpture to me in Sweden with a very short delivery time during the weeks just before Christmas when most deliveries in Europe are delayed. Our competitive price landed in Sweden was also appreciated.

"Thank you Art Evolution"

I received the painting in time for my wife's birthday and it looks fabulous. I was initially concerned about the packing and shipping but all was done exceptionally well, we will be back for more artworks for our new home.

"Chris Talbot made the experience of buying fine art an incredible experience and not just a transaction."

His care and follow through, are why we are so happy with the purchases we have made, almost as much as the art itself.

"We benefited considerably from Brenda of Cashmere Design’s experience working with Christopher Talbot of Art Evolution."

With their input, we have been able to enhance our homes in a fashion that we would never have imagined. Equally important from our perspective, however, was their courteous, instructive introduction to the role and the value that unique art can bring to our lives and our homes. We would highly recommend including this perspective in planning any future building projects.
